As part of a larger effort to remove references to Confederate leaders from Defense Department property.

A panel has recommended that the Navy change the name of a guided-missile cruiser that celebrates a Confederate military victory.

On Tuesday, the commission established to rename bases named after Confederate leaders released the third and final part of its report

Which included a recommendation that the Navy change the names of the USS Chancellorsville

A Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, and the USNS Maury, an oceanographic survey ship.

Commission members told reporters that the Navy had renamed around 20 ships while they were still in service.
